Can I get a refund?Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds, except in special circumstances. In that case, your request will be forwarded to our committee. Please email info@afdunedin.org.nz if your circumstances have changed. Also, once enrolled, please contact your teacher when you are unable to attend one class.

How can I pay for my booking?Payments are now strictly online with a valid credit/debit card, while booking classes or registering for an event. Please note that your enrolment or registration can only be confirmed once payment has been made.

Can I bring my dog?Unfortunately no. We cannot accept pets on our premises.

Can I just pop in for a chat?You may find closed-doors if you pop in, as we are a small association staffed by volunteers; we do not have full-time staff. You will have more luck if you contact us at info@afdunedin.org.nz Alternatively, join us for one of our regular catch-ups, either at P’tit Dej (French Brunch) on the first Saturday of every month from 10.30-12.30, or at Soiree Crepes on the second Thursday of each month at 6pm. Visit the Facebook page or check the website for other events and gatherings where there will certainly be someone on-site to assist you.

Do I need to check with you before I enroll for a class?You can book your class directly on our website, unless you are unsure about what level you require (e.g. adult classes, A1-B2); in that case, see below:

Can I enrol mid-term?Yes, you can, although we advise that you enroll from the beginning of a term as we do not cannot provide discounts for late or partial term enrolments. Please contact us at info@afdunedin.org.nz if enrolling part-way through a term, so that we can make sure that you are able to integrate into the class..

How long is a term at Alliance francaise?The term is 8 weeks. Term dates can be found on the website. Lunchtime conversation classes generally continue throughout the year and can be started at any time of the year, although please confirm this with the teacher.

Can I watch my child during his class?As we prefer school-aged children to immerse themselves in our classes; it is preferable that parents do not attend class. You can wait in our corridor; seats are available. Parents must be present for the preschool playgroup.

Why is it important that I subscribe to membership?We pride ourselves at offering free or affordable events & classes throughout the year, but our association has to bear the cost of bills, rent, etc… That is why every membership subscription contributes to assisting with these costs, and supporting our small community.

What are the benefits of the membership?Membership grants you discounts with the Cheese Wheel, and with a range of French children & teenagers magazines’ subscriptions. It also enables access to our large library, designed for all ages.

Do I need to be a member to attend a regular event?Most of our events are open to the general public. However, a discounted rate usually applies to members.

Why is there still a charge for some events if I am already a member?Our membership rates are very low and do not cover the full cost of most of our events. This funding model means that your membership fee remains low and you only contribute more for events that you decide to attend.

What is DELF/DALF/DILF?DELF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française), DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) and DILF (Diplôme Initial de Langue Française) and are the only French as a foreign language diplomas issued by the French Ministry of Education. They are valid for life, recognized worldwide and allow you to officially validate your French learning. These diplomas constitute a recognition of your school, university and/or professional background in French language. Moreover DELF and DALF allows you to study, work and immigrate in a French-speaking country.

Are DELF exams the same for children or for business?All DELF-DALF diplomas are adapted to your age, situation and expectations, and range form A.1 to B.2. Check out our page.

Are there specific DELF preparation classes?We run DELF/DALF preparation workshops throughout the year and shortly before the examination help you to prepare for the different parts of the examination. The workshops are available for all levels. Please feel free to discuss your goals and your preferred schedule with us.
